Fifth Conference Copenhagen: Water in urban areas and planning law

The fifth Conference of the Platform of experts in Planning Law took place in warm and sunny Copenhagen.

The conference started with a presentation ‘Comparative Planning Law Research’ by Rachelle Altermann. In the morning a case concerning ‘Water in urban areas and planning law’ was discussed. Helle Tegner Anker gave a brief introduction to the case and expressed the Danish point of view. After that Pieter Jong and Fred Hobma (The Netherlands) and Tim Schwarz (Germany) presented their response to the case. This led to a lively panel-discussion chaired by Rachelle Altermann .

In the afternoon there were several inspiring presentations:
-Challenges and solutions from a technical perspective (Marina Bergen Jensen, Faculty of Life Sciences, Copenhagen University)
-Challenges and solutions from a legal practitioner perspective (Jens Flensborg, Adv.firmaet Energi & Miljo)
-Climate adaptation and planning law (Helle Ina Elmer, Danish Ministry for the Environment)
-The Devolution of Authority to municipal governments to mitigate flood loses and guarantee secure water supplies in the United States (Dan Tarlock, Professor of Law IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law)
Followed by discussion.

All participants expressed their intention for a follow up to the further exchange of knowledge through this website and a sixth conference next year.

The second day of the conference included a cultural program. A Excursion to Oerestad and a boattrip was very much appreciated by the members of the Platform of Experts in Planning Law.
